Description
Barnstable Harbor Transient Mooring
Barnstable Harbor is located off Cape Cod Bay and is a large, active harbor featuring multiple mooring fields, shellfish grants, beaches, town and private marinas, as well as several boat ramps and landings.
Navigation & Location
Access is via the Federal Channel (BH Buoy). The mooring is located near the “Sandy Neck Cottage Colony” mooring area in a protected section inside the harbor, just outside the federal Barnstable Harbor channel. As you head toward the inner harbor, the mooring will be on your starboard side. It is clearly marked with an orange stripe on the mooring ball along with the specific mooring number for easy identification.
Shore Access
This mooring is not within walking distance of shore. A small vessel (dinghy) is required to reach the inner harbor. Temporary dinghy tie-up may be available at the Town Marina at the Dockmaster’s discretion—call 508-326-1836 to request permission. Vessels left in slips without authorization are not permitted.
Numerous restaurants, shops, and stores are within walking distance once ashore. Please be aware that Barnstable Harbor experiences a 10-foot tidal range and strong currents. Rowing is possible but not recommended.
For assistance, contact the Harbormaster’s Office at 508-790-6273 or hail on VHF Channel 09. Please note the office is not staffed 24/7.
Private fuel docks are available in the inner harbor.
