Description
In 1939, Bill Parsons Sr. and his brother Herb traded their interest in two cars to secure a down payment on a riverfront sandpit. At the time, the riverfront was being dredged, and the brothers recognized the area’s future potential to support growing boating demands. This vision set the foundation for what would become Dredge Harbor Marina, eventually developing into the largest full-service marina in the Delaware Valley.
By the early 1940s, Bill and Herb had transformed the sandpit into a functional marina with several in-water slips. They also began selling well-known boat brands such as Broadwater Yachts and Greenwich boats, expanding sales in the years following World War II. In 1946, the brothers partnered with Chris Craft as boat dealers, a relationship that remained central to their business until the 1978 New York Boat Show, where Jack Purcell encouraged them to invest in the emerging West Coast boat manufacturer, Bayliner.
In 1984, Bill Parsons’ children, Tammy and Bill Jr., purchased Herb’s share of the marina and assumed daily operations. Bill Sr. continued to visit regularly, maintaining strong relationships with loyal customers and employees until his passing on July 21, 2008. Today, the marina remains a family-owned business operated by Tammy and Bill, with support from their children—Lauren, Stacy, Wil, and Robert.
Now in its third generation, the family has introduced a members-only club on the property called “The Craft.” With 180 in-water slips and a dry stack storage facility capable of housing 160 boats, Dredge Harbor Boat Center LLC has evolved from a simple sandpit into a 110-acre marine complex dedicated to serving the boating community along the Delaware River.
