Description

At the southern end of Opoutere Beach is the winding entrance to Wharekawa Harbour, sheltered by a striking sandspit. This sandspit serves as an important breeding area for several endangered native seabirds, including the New Zealand dotterel. There is no marina within this harbour. It is a beautiful destination to visit. We stayed at a nearby campground and enjoyed many memorable hours at the beach and exploring the surrounding forests with our young children.
